From potential jail time to loss of driving privileges and an eventual increase in auto insurance rates, every driver faces serious consequences when charged with intoxicated driving. Several drivers in the lower Hudson Valley also recently found out the hard way that a DWI charge comes with unwelcome notoriety.
After NY state troopers charged five residents with drunk driving or drugged driving, the name, age and residence of the alleged offenders showed up on the website of The Journal News, which serves Rockland County, Putnam County and Westchester County.
The charges were based on a range of circumstances:
- A Cortlandt man was held for arraignment for felony DWI after allegedly fleeing the scene of an accident, refusing to submit to alcohol testing and being found to have a previous drunk driving conviction within the past ten years
- A Pomona man faced misdemeanor DWI charges after being pulled over on the Garden State Parkway near Nanuet
- A New City woman was charged with DWI due to a traffic stop on Interstate 87 between Chestnut Ridge and Monsey
- A Connecticut man faced charges of DWI and driving without a license after being stopped on a local road in Pound Ridge
- Another Connecticut resident was pulled over and charged with DWI on I-684 near Brewster
Whatever the legal consequences of an arrest, being exposed for suspicion of driving while intoxicated can take an immediate toll on a career and community standing. Contacting an experienced DWI defense lawyer as soon as possible after an arrest is critical to protecting your rights.
